About Us
We are the Autonomous Vehicles Systems (AVS) Lab and are interested in the algorithmic foundations and automated learning of intelligent and autonomous vehicle systems. The AVS Lab's research is motivated by the goal of developing the next generation of intelligent, autonomous vehicle systems. These systems will be able to interact with each other and with people while acting safely, efficiently and responsibly. Our vision is to enable safe and trustworthy autonomy for a wide range of highly integrated vehicle applications. We are looking for outstanding researchers who are passionate about cutting-edge research in the fields of autonomous systems, robotics and machine learning.
Tasks and project
As part of a research project, you will be part of a dedicated group that develops new functions for intelligent, high-performance vehicles (motorsport applications). You will be responsible for the conception, implementation, and evaluation of the new algorithms. In this PhD project, you will work on the development of an AI-supported “Virtual Performance Engineer” for motorsport applications. Your tasks include analyzing vehicle and driver data, designing and implementing algorithms for real-time analysis and optimization of vehicle performance and driving technique, and their validation in test vehicles. You will accompany the project from the initial data analysis to the final integration and ensure that the solutions developed meet the highest safety and performance standards. In addition to your technical work, you will take on responsibility for teaching and ancillary tasks and supervise student teams.
Your profile
You are enthusiastic about the topic of autonomous systems and robotics and are motivated to take on responsibility in research. You enjoy working in a loyal and committed team to solve complex problems and dedicate yourself to a topic over a longer period of time.
In summary, you bring with you:
- A Master's degree in a technical field (mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, electrical engineering, computer science, etc.)
- Know-How from lectures in machine learning and artificial intelligence
- Very good programming skills (e.g. Matlab, Python, C, C++)
- A conscientious and independent way of working
- High motivation and commitment
- Negotiation skills in written and spoken German and English
We offer
- Full-time position as research associate (TV-L E-13, 100%)
- Partnership with an industrial partner from motorsport applications
- Integration into the TUM Graduate School for support in doctoral studies
- Future-oriented research area with high (national and international) scientific exchange
- Loyal, reliable and committed team
- Numerous opportunities for professional and interdisciplinary training (e.g. soft-skill seminars)
- Modern working environment and infrastructure
- Possibility to work abroad
- Flexible home office arrangement
How do I apply?
The Autonomous Vehicle Systems Lab aims to increase its percentage of women and therefore strongly encourages qualified women to apply. Severely disabled persons will be given preference in case of equal suitability and qualification.
