Fast development of carbon composite vehicle structures (BIWCFRP)
Project completed - Contact: ftm(at)ftm.mw.tum.de
Challenge
Currently available concept design tools for body in white (BIW) structures are able to generate computer aided engineering (CAE) structures for finite element analysis (FEA) simulations. The generated structures are adaptable accordingly to the quick changing design requirements in the early design phase. Developed for metal structures these tools do not consider the applied manufacturing method although having a major impact on the later properties of CFRP structures.
Goal
Therefore, a tool should be developed which can quickly create CFRP-BIW accordingly to the design parameters of the user with consideration of important influence parameters of a carbon-BIW. Furthermore it will be possible to predict important structural and manufacturing properties of the structure.
Realisation
Analysis of vehicle structures, virtual assessments of influence parameters from geometrical, manufacturing and material behaviour on performance and costs, validation with test at different companies.
