From Monday, 22.08.22 to Friday, 26.08.22, our field test for Ride-Parcel-Pooling (RPP) will take place as part of the research project "TEMPUS" funded by the German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV).
Ride-Parcel-Pooling describes the combined transport of passengers and parcels and is a so-called "ride-pooling" service that cleverly combines passenger requests and can thus specifically save driving distance and vehicles. In this field test, passengers are joined by parcels, which turns the whole thing into "ride parcel pooling". In this case, the parcels are served with a lower priority than the passengers and simply ride along on suitable passenger journeys. This makes it possible to achieve the most efficient utilization of vehicle capacity, as well as a reduction in the total distance traveled.
The field test includes a mobile phone app and 5 electric bicycle rickshaws, which will offer the RPP service in the Munich district "Maxvorstadt". Each rickshaw has two seats and additional space for the parcels. The service will be available daily between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm for one week and is completely free of charge for the users. Passenger trips can start and end at any location within the service area, and parcels can be picked up directly from the sender's home. Parcel transportation includes a donation or recycling capaign, which means that the RPP service collects Ukraine donations, old books or used clothes, as well as small electronic waste and batteries. The parcels are then donated to the organizations "München Hilft Ukraine e.V." and "Stiftung Pfennigparade", and the recycling appliances are disposed of properly.
