MCube Speaker Series: "Future of Mobility - Bikes First?!", 01.12.2022
On Thursday, 01.12.2022, interested listeners met in the Transport Centre of the Deutsches Museum to listen to another interesting lecture within the MCube Speaker Series "Future of Mobility". There were already several events in the series last year (see here).
Under the heading "Bikes first?! - A breath of fresh air in Europe's cities - is this the end of car-centric decades in Europe?" various experts spoke on the topic. To warm up, MCube director Oliver May-Beckmann gave a short introduction: What is MCube anyway? Who is behind MCube? Why mobility and why bikes first? The general questions were answered within an short image film. Regarding the last question, Oliver handed over the stage to Dr. Isabella Grahsl, who welcomed the audience on behalf of DB Connect and gave some introductory words for the experts. Afterwards, the stage belonged to the international speakers. First, Andreas Røhl (Associate, Mobility Lead at Gehl Architects, Copenhagen) gave a presentation on how bicycle and mobility planning works in Copenhagen, in international cities and in general at Gehls Architects. After 10 minutes the microphone was handed over to Matej Praprotnik (Bicycle Mayor of Ljubljana), who told about his work as bicycle mayor in Ljubljana. The position is not an official one, but through the title and his activities he draws attention to the promotion of cycling in Slovenia. Finally, Dr.-Ing. Benjamin Büttner (Technical University of Munich) gave a presentation in which he adressed the importance of a human-centred planning approach, promoting accessibility and (all) sustainable forms of mobility.
After the short presentations, numerous questions from the audience were answered. The round was complemented by Stefanie Schlattmann (CFO of Avocargo, Berlin), who brought in the perspective of cargo bike sharing operators through her experience.
At the end of the evening, everyone who wanted to could enjoy food and drink during the Stammtisch Mobilität in the neighbouring restaurant.
Many thanks to all speakers and listeners.
We are looking forward to the next event: Thursday, 19 January 2023, same place, same time (6:30 p.m. in the Transport Centre of the Deutsches Museum). This time on the topic of "The future of mobility - the bus 2.0? - Away from the dingy image, the obvious solution to our traffic problem".
