"Remaking the Street" Summer School 2022: The week in Munich
The week in Munich started with a warm welcome of the students at the Technical University of Munich by Dr.-Ing. Benjamin Büttner and Judith O'Meara kicked off the “Remaking the street” summer school. After a short introduction and get-to-know each other, the open lectures started with a talk about “Overview of Street Experiments” followed by Dr.-Ing. Julia Kinigadner and Simone Aumann presenting the framework for addressing the design, construction, and evaluation of street experiments in Munich. Felix Lüdicke closed the lectures with a talk at and about the Piazza Zenetti, a famous example of remaking the streets.
The second day began with an interesting talk about the building and implementation process of a parklet – shown with the Street Experiments Tool (SET). Also, the municipality of Munich was present during the summer school: Max Steverding (Referat für Stadtverbesserung) presented the 100-Meter-of-Future project. Lisa Thuro talked about the temporal change of the Arcisstraße - home of the TUM city center campus (read more about Intervention Arcisstraße). The day was finished with a walk to a parklet to see theory in practice!
The third day in Munich was used to transform the knowledge: Within a workshop, the students installed a new parklet in Munich. Go and visit it: Close to the TUM city center campus in Steinheilstraße, Munich.
The day after, Christina Pirner (Green City) showed the importance of engagement with the city and the citizens on the “Quartierswende” project. Representatives from Plan4Better talked and highlighted the topic of accessibility. With a GOAT workshop, the students were able to experience an accessibility tool in practice.
The last day in Munich contained a field trip to the Westendkiez, a project addressing “more space for everyone”. After noon, a nice talk from Dr. Jessica Le Bries (GreenCity Experience) about the paradigm change in mobility cultures closed the content of the summer school in Munich.
The whole week was accompanied by several group working and feedback sessions, nice lunches from vegan lunch date, exciting field trips to different locations in Munich, and voluntary options for joint dinners.
It was a nice and interesting week in Munich, but that is not the end of the “Remaking the street summer school”. It continued in Rotterdam: Read more here.
