The first TUM Sustainability Day takes place on 27 October 2022 during the whole day. On this day, we want to show what is happening concerning sustainability at our university and we want to engage in discussions - both internally and externally. The Sustainability Day is the Kick-Off for the implementation of our sustainability strategy (to be officially presented then) and it is a milestone for a whole-institution-approach on our sustainability transformation.
The Chair of Urban Structure and Transportation Planning offers an activity on the TUM Sustainability Day. Come over and see what is going on:
Street experimentation in Steinheilstraße
Do you dare to change your street?
Research associates from our Chair will introduce you to a real-life example of a “Parklet” (the re-purposing of a parking space). We built the “Parklet” in Steinheilstraße during the “Remaking the Street” Summer School, together with 35 international Master students.
During the exhibition you will learn about the transformation of a parking spot into a public space that provides alternative mobility options in dense urban environments.
Help us to improve public space by participating in our activity. Why are we doing it? Vehicle parking accounts for a major portion of space use on city streets and public space, in general, and is a very inefficient use of a scarce urban resource. On average cars are driven only a fraction of time and spend the rest standing idle in a parking space.
