PRIMA

Participatory Living Lab for Innovative Mobility Management with App-based Incentives

General description

The "Participatory Living Lab for Innovative Mobility Management with App-based Incentives" (PRIMA) tests innovative methods to improve the framework conditions for using sustainable mobility options for employees and students of the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Through various incentive-based interventions (innovative and digital "pull measures"), the attractiveness of alternatives to motorized individual traffic (MIT) for journeys to and from TUM locations as well as within them is increased.

In addition to the implementation of app-based information, gamification, and communication measures, the PRIMA project tests the extent to which the participation of employees and students, for example in the coordination of actionable measures, has an additional steering effect on reducing environmentally harmful emissions.

However, the results of the project are not limited to the students and employees directly involved throughout the entire project duration. As part of internal and external communication on climate protection at TUM and as part of the TUM Sustainable Communities Network, the awareness and activation of all TUM members are to be achieved. Through the dissemination of results as a good practice example, the innovative approach of PRIMA can achieve scalable effects at many other universities and public institutions.

Objective

Shift as many motorized individual traffic trips of TUM members to and from the locations to sustainable modes of transport, consisting of public transportation and cycling. Researching supply and demand-based digital measures of operational mobility management in living labs with the aim of implementing more targeted projects in the future for the significant reduction of emissions from commuting mobility of students and staff.
