The three-year GOAT 3.0 project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) through the mFUND program with €1.03 million, concluded on October 31, 2024. The project, led by five partners, enhanced the GOAT planning tool into a comprehensive platform for public transport (PT) and other mobility modes, enabling accessibility analyses, intermodal trip planning, and green space evaluations.
Key outcomes include:
New functionalities: PT and motorized transport accessibility analyses, intermodal route calculations, and evaluations of public services and green spaces.
Practical applications: GOAT now supports diverse use cases such as 15-minute city assessments, PT planning, and mobility concept development.
Nationwide readiness: Comprehensive datasets, including small-scale population data, were integrated to ensure GOAT's usability across Germany.
Feedback from over 20 workshops and pilot regions (Rhein-Neckar, Munich, Görlitz, and Bonn) shaped the development, making GOAT a valuable tool for planning offices and regional authorities.
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) played a central role in the research and technical development of GOAT, contributing academic expertise and innovative methodologies to enhance its capabilities. Meanwhile, Plan4Better GmbH led the implementation and refinement of GOAT, ensuring it became a practical, user-friendly platform for planning professionals and public authorities.
GOAT is already being widely used for planning and analysis, including projects led by the Rhine-Neckar region and Munich-based planning offices. For those interested, a free demo version is available at plan4better.de/goat.
