On 16 March 2023, the TUM openLAB Urban Mobility organised a Walking Awareness Workshop in Munich, where participants could experience first-hand the challenges seniors, people in wheelchairs and people with disabilities face in road traffic. With the workshop, openLAB and the academic staff at the Chair of Urban Structure and Transport Planning would like to raise awareness for accessible design in urban space and beyond. Special thanks to our guest researcher Maria Teresa Baquero Larriva (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), who provided the insight, knowledge and necessary equipment for the workshop!
The workshop took place in the Berg am Laim district, which is the focus of the research project MGeM (Mobility Equity in Metropolitan Regions) of the MCube - Munich Cluster for the future of Mobility in Metropolitan Regions. This project aims to create a mobility system that is accessible and equitable for all members of the community in the future. The project is also integrated into the (new) Research Group on Mobility Justice. It is led by Dr.-Ing. David Duran, who has been working in various positions at the Technical University of Munich since 2016 and finally received his PhD in 2022. The aim of the research group is to raise awareness, assess and address inequities in mobility and create a more inclusive future of mobility.
Are you interested in participating or running an awareness workshop? The TUM openLAB Urban Mobility is happy to organise further workshops.
