Freight Model

A commodity flow freight model was implemted for Germany and integrated with the transport model MITO. A commodity flow matrix was provided by the German Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. Commodity flows were disaggregated to smaller zones using input-output coefficients. Next, commodity flows were converted from flows in tons into truck trips by using payload factors. Empty trucks were added, and selected flows are sent through distribution centers to reload goods from larger long-distance trucks to smaller short-distance trucks for local delivery.
