OBUAM Project (Oberbayern Urban Air Mobility)
OBUAM project is funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy
The OBUAM is a one-year project (2019) conducted in cooperation between TUM Chair of Modeling Spatial Mobility and Chair of Transportation Systems Engineering, Bauhaus Luftfahrt e.V., Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt and managed by the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
The main task of the project was to estimate the potential of UAM integration in Upper Bavaria Region. The tasks for TUM Chair of Modeling Spatial Mobility were to estimate possible UAM demand, to simulate UAM operation for year 2030, to integrate secondary modes in travel demand model, to estimate possible induced demand due to UAM introduction.
UAM mode was introduced into existing travel demand model MITO using incremental logit modelling aproach and coefficcients estimated from the results of stated preference survey conducted in Munich. Moreover new trip purpose AIRPORT was integrated into the model in order to model trips to and from Munich airport by different modes uncluding UAM mode. Since UAM operates from defined vertiports network secondary modes (access and egress modes) were introduced into the model as well.
Traffic assignment was conducted using MATSim with UAM extension. The number of scenarios were run with limited and unlimited aerial vehicle fleet. Afterwards 5 final UAM scenarios were defined with different vertiports networks, travel costs and travel times, etc. Estimated induced demand was negligiable.
