Resume
since 2021 | Travel Behavior, Technical Unversity of Munich Associate Professor (Tenured) My research group was renamed to "Travel Behavior" to better reflect the extended scope of our work, including both travel behavior analyses and transport modeling. |
2015 - 2021
Modeling Spatial Mobility, Technical University of Munich Rudolf Mößbauer Assistant Professor At TUM, I lead a research group called Modeling Spatial Mobility. Both travel demand modeling and land use modeling, as well as their tight integration, are covered in our research.
2013 - 2015
National Center for Smart Growth (NCSG), University of Maryland Faculty Research Associate At the NCSG I was responsible for improving the Maryland Statewide Transportation Model (MSTM), specifically the implementation of an auto-ownership model, a synthetic population generator and a microscopic module to cover trip generation. Another major project was the implementation of the land use model SILO for Maryland. The model was redesigned to cover location choice at the statewide level. At the same time, SILO was integrated with the travel demand model MSTM to calculate accessibilities, a major driver for household relocation decisions. In 2014 and 2015, I co-tought a class on Research Design for PhD students.
2007 - 2013
Parsons Brinckerhoff, Inc. Principal Professional Associate At Parsons Brinckerhoff, I had the chance to work on a large variety of project in travel demand modeling, including - Activity-based models - Freight models - Land use models - Mode choice modeling - Statewide transportation models
2002 - 2006
Institut für Raumplanung, Universität Dortmund Research Associate While conducting the research for my dissertation, I worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Spatial Planning. My principal research project was the Integrated Land Use Modelling And transportation System Simulation (ILUMASS), the first fully microscopic integrated land-use/transportation model.
1996 - 2002
Department of Spatial Planning, University of Dortmund, Germany Student (equivalent of BSc and MSc) During my studies, I worked as a student research assistant at the chair of Sociology for Planners and at the Institute of Spatial Planning. From 2000 to 2001, I spent a year as a Fulbright Scholar at the Department of Urban Design and Planning at University of Washington in Seattle.
