Transport modelling, microsimulation and other issues in land-use/economic/transport modelling practice
This presentation will begin with an outline of the present contexts for modelling the interactions of land-use, transport and the economy, referring mainly to the UK. It will discuss how different requirements have meant that available transport models are often impractical to use in work where they would be valuable. The presentation will describe how this is being addressed, and why it has been necessary to invent the term “LUMIT model” - for “land-use model influenced by transport” - in contrast to “LUTI model”. It will conclude by reviewing lessons from previous work with microsimulation land-use models and why such models are rarely used in UK practice.
