Traffic State Ingolstadt (completed 2011)
Application of new technologies and methods for optimal traffic state estimation
Project Description
This project is realised within the industry-cooperation INI.TUM.
High-quality traffic state information is made available in-vehicle to make optimal use of driver assistance systems, such as navigation systems. A traffic research system is set up to process the current traffic state situation in Ingolstadt.
Two data sources are used as a basis for the system:
1. Position information from taxis, which provide floating car data and data from intelligent communicating vehicles (Car2X).
2. Data from stationary sensors, including inductive loop detectors.
Both data sources are combined.
In the second phase of the project, use cases are studied to make use of traffic state information, for example for dynamic navigation, parking space management, traffic light control or tailback warning.
