Integrating Short- and Long-Range Decisions: Past Lessons & Future Prospects
Building on 20 years of experience in developing the ILUTE and TASHA agent-based microsimulation models of land-use and travel behaviour, this presentation discusses a conceptual framework for the integrated modelling of household spatial-economic decision-making. The framework is integrated in that it deals with: both persons and households; short-run (e.g., daily activity/travel) and long-run (e.g., residential location) decisions; and a range of long-run processes (labour force participation, demographics, etc.). Prospects and challenges for implementation of this framework in the next generation of ILUTE are discussed.
